The Art of Surfing

I was watching a documentary on surfing.I was amazed how these guys would continually jump into the ocean with only a surf board and look for an approaching wave that hopefully would grow as tall as a building. After that they would "ride" this wave even as it circled overhead and threatened to crash down onto them.

With good timing and skill, the surfer would expertly ride out the wave. If his timing was off, then the wave would crash onto him and send him flying. The surfer would disappear from view. People on the beach would be nervous. They hoped that nothing was wrong. A few seconds later, the surfer would appear, with a slightly shaken look on his face. Then, he would beam a smile, to show that the wave had got him, but he was okay. After that, he would climb onto his surf board and search out another cresting wave, hopefully a giant one of course, and ride out that one too.

As I watched the documentary, I made a drawing of a surfer doing his stuff. When the program was over I then took the drawing and made it into a finished painting.
