Art Painting--Sydney Opera House. Artist: Martin Plant©2009
my catalog number 4384.
I recently saw a picture of the Sydney Opera House and I wanted to show it in a different version from the one usually seen. I wanted to give the impression of "Music" and "Sound" and to do this I decided to use vibrant colors and high contrast instead of the mauve color of the opera house as we know it.
I began the drawing in the "eye-balling" technique. Artists know what I mean by this. It's a slow, laborious artist's method to draw something when you don't want to use rulers or other mechanical devices. And I don't. After about an hour of this I stopped for a break. When I returned, I made more "eye-balling" corrections until the drawing looked right.(And people think becoming an artist is just "ten easy lessons" Ha!) Then I added a sailboat to show that the Sydney Opera House was set on an island. After that came lots of decisions on which color combinations to use.
So here it is, The Sydney Opera House. Maestro, music please.
